On a sunny May morning two years ago, a car with a deviant interior and an unconventional exterior design shone and over thousand eyes hounded on its features. Maruti Suzuki made a hard move in response to Honda Jazz, Fiat Grande Punto and Volkswagen polo with its Ritz. For a man of classy taste, Ritz is just the choice.

Ritz is available in both Petrol and Diesel version. The car’s scorecard continues to find its faithful followers in various online polls (such as Car Dekho and Sulekha Cars) with its K-series engine which is super smooth and highly efficient. The petrol version of the car is packed with 1.2 L, 1197 cc K -12 series engine. The K-12 series engine is packed with 5 Speed Manual Transmission Gearbox and BS IV emission. The highly powerful engine of Maruti Ritz offers a maximum power of 85 PS at 6000 rpm and a torque of 113 Nm at 4500 rpm. The diesel version of Maruti Ritz is packed with 1.3L, 1248 cc DDiS engine with 5 Manual Transmission Gearbox that offers greater mileage and acceleration to the car. This DDiS engine is very fuel efficiency and offers an impressive power of 75 PS at 4000 rpm and a torque of 190 Nm at 2000 rpm.

She wins your heart with just a test drive and you want to take her home. She makes more sense in your head than most cars would in your heart. During the drive, the engine is barely audible and she provides you exactly what an ideal ride renders ‘peace of mind’. Further, to deal with the innumerable and often cruel potholes on our roads, the ground clearance of the Ritz is a good 30mm higher than that of Splash. Her K12M engine has been specifically created to match the needs of a man driving his small and content family on the Delhi traffic-ridden roads. Even though the motor displaces lesser than Swift, we can be sure she would get us smoothly through hills on a vacation as she did for a dear driver on the mountains of Vizagpatnam. She glides through the roads with immense agility, her excellent drivability and stability even at higher speeds amazes the passenger even as you instruct her to ride you over 100kph. For a music lover, she offers Integrated Audio System i.e Radio and CD player.

She might be a little less supple than Swift on the street but her handling characteristics have highly dumbfounded many. The steering in the Ritz petrol is precise and light but few times it lacks the natural feel of the road. Brake pedal is well weighed and brakes offer a firm and progressive feel.

‘A cool hatch for a nuclear family’, Ritz is very spacious with excellent headroom and leg room, both in the front and rear. For a reader with long legs, for that matter, any man who has the eye-catching ‘tallness’, it would be helpful to mention that she will satisfy you with her roomy Boot space. The position of driver’s seat and that of passengers ones is excellent, giving a commanding view of the road all over. While many have raised voices against the rear back, it would be noteworthy to mention the difference between the Japanese and Korean designs of cars. While Japnese-designed cars like Suzuki Ritz, Swift, NHC, ANHC, CR-V look out of shape initially, they catch more attention and turn out to be quite attractive in the long run, on the other hand, Korean-designed cars like Hyundai Santro, Accent, Elantra, Daewoo Cielo end up in the list of ‘getting bored of the look’ cars. The one element of Ritz that seems to have gained negative light is the rear view mirrors which have been claimed to be not quite helpful. Considering the swift progress by MS in their car technologies and having a charitable eye towards the kind curves of Ritz, it can be observed that the cars launched thereafter have not received complaints of this sort.
Many car-mania club discussions revolve around the comparison between Ritz with i10 and Swift. i10′s 1.2 ltr Kappa engine delivering 80ps is surplus for this size of car, but among this trio, Ritz’s 1.2 ltr k-series engine is best performer. It offers more power with better fuel efficiency for bigger body and has a perfect gear ratio. While Swift’s 1.3 ltr multipoint injection engine is fun to drive with, Ritz does not disappoint a family man who places safety over the thrill. i10 is good for an average height person. However, the compact leg room is not very conformable for taller ones especially during long drive. Swift and Ritz both offer better driver’s leg space. Moreover, Swift and Ritz feel better on rough terrain than i10, because of their long shockers and larger wheelbase.

Keeping in view the overall elegance of the creation, Ritz has rightly added her punch line ‘Live The Moment’ with a glorious golden star to the image of a baby falling asleep on the wheels and of your woman singing on a rainy afternoon inside a comfy car.
